Cycled along the walk today. Was loads of other people cycling, walking and fishing - didn't see any canoeists though! Pretty much the whole walk felt more pleasant without the industrial activity going on. Was a little odd in areas like the tyre factory, because you could still see and smell industry, but obviously nothing was happening.

I did the obvious and found some precedents for our project (the umbrella brief, not our own particular one)

Tutti Frutti by Urban Splash is the reference in the brief
They in turn acknowledge that they kind of pinched the idea from these guys, West8, who created Borneo-Sporenburg in Amsterdam in 1993
Then I came across The Scotswood Expo Architectural Competition in Newcastle
and finally I found a reference to the Bo01 City of Tomorrow in Sweden.

Next Stage of the Project

Hi All,

I hope you have all managed to get started on the P3 project in some way. As well as thinking conceptually about the Breaking the Rules of Domestic Order, you should also be getting on with drawing the volume in its context to scale and with general site analysis.

The brief was left deliberately quite open on Monday to allow you to think broadly about the ideas, I would now like to focus more specifically on some set tasks.

To recap, the main idea in the project is two-fold:

- To shift away from the functional division and use of space into usual rooms: kitchen, bedroom, bathroom etc.

- To think of architecture rather than furniture.

Very often in traditional houses, many of the spaces are the same architecturally, and it is the furniture that dictates whether it is a bedroom or a

living room etc. But what if we try to let the architecture change instead?

I attach here a separate brief which outlines a design excercise and details of group reviews on the 17th November.
